What is CoQ10?
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10, also called ubiquinone) occurs naturally in the body. It helps transfer electrons in mitochondria, the structures cells use to produce much of their usable energy.

Cellular energy is complex—and supplement outcomes are not all the same.
Mitochondria, heart health & study outcomes. Start with what is established, look closely at human studies, and consider safety before considering any product.

01 / FOUNDATION
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10, also called ubiquinone) occurs naturally in the body. It helps transfer electrons in mitochondria, the structures cells use to produce much of their usable energy.
02 / CONTEXT
Small amounts occur in a variety of foods including meat, fish and nuts. The body also makes CoQ10, so the amount eaten does not tell the whole story about CoQ10 status.
03 / EVIDENCE, NOT HYPE
CoQ10 has been studied for heart-related conditions, migraine and statin-associated muscle symptoms. Results vary by outcome. Reviews do not show convincing benefit for statin-related muscle pain, and evidence for heart failure and prevention of heart disease remains uncertain.
How we read research ↗04 / THE LABEL
Products may contain ubiquinone or ubiquinol, and use different oil-based or other delivery systems. Higher measured absorption is not the same as proven clinical benefit.
05 / SAFETY FIRST
CoQ10 may reduce the effectiveness of warfarin. People with heart disease, those taking anticoagulants, or those having cancer treatment should discuss supplements with their clinical team rather than substituting them for prescribed care.
06 / INFORMED CHOICES
An honest guide should help you decide whether a supplement makes sense—including when the answer may be no.
